As Hall writes: “No longer is he driving a narrative across the country, one that makes it onto the opinion pages of the Times or the halls of the U.S.

Over at Twitter, it remains to be seen whether Carlson’s new show will find an audience Twitter’s “view” metric “measures only users who have had the tweet served to them, not individuals who have watched the video,” Hall notes, putting the actual number of people watching Carlson’s show “far, far lower.” (His latest video currently has 7.9 million views.) More telling, though, is that Carlson’s commentary on Twitter doesn’t seem to be generating much of an emotional response, whether it be outrage or praise. While Fox’s ratings took a major hit in the weeks following Carlson’s ouster, Mediaite’s Colby Hall notes that "viewership has started to tick back up"-a sign “that this viewer revolt is not as dire as ones seen in the past.” The network recently named Jesse Watters as Carlson’s replacement, among other changes to the evening lineup.

Meanwhile, amid all of this legal chaos, Carlson is also “raising capital to launch a new company,” according to Puck’s Dylan Byers, who reported that the endeavor “might-if executed adroitly-serve as a paradigm for a generation of TV news personalities with huge followings and fandoms who remain marooned to their desks amid shrinking audiences." Carlson’s lawyers have made First Amendment arguments and accused Fox of breaching his contract.

“Fox is continuing to pay Carlson, and maintains that his contract keeps his content exclusive to Fox through Dec. A few weeks earlier, Axios reported that Fox News had sent a cease-and-desist letter to Carlson, who is still engaged in a battle over his contract with his former employer. Last week, the eight remaining staffers who worked for Tucker Carlson Tonight-two top producers departed the network earlier in June-were let go, Mediaite reported.

Fox, which previously disputed Grossberg’s allegations, said in a statement, “We are pleased that we have been able to resolve this matter without further litigation.”įox News settling with Grossberg is just one among a series of notable developments in Carlson's universe of late. “I am hopeful, based on our discussions with Fox News today, that this resolution represents a positive step by the network regarding its treatment of women and minorities in the workplace,” said Grossberg, who in a pair of lawsuits this spring claimed that she experienced misogyny and harassment at Fox News, and accused Fox of coercing her into lying in sworn testimony that she gave in the Dominion case. The settlement, the New York Times reported, concluded all of Grossberg’s claims against Fox and the people she’d named in her complaints, including Carlson and some of his producers. It was the exact kind of bigotry and fearmongering he'd spewed for years at Fox News, which recently agreed to pay $12 million to Abby Grossberg, a former producer on his primetime show who had accused him of creating a toxic workplace. “It’s pretty clear that Rick Levine has no interest in liberating you from anything," he said, referring to Levine by their former name and gender. Late last month, during his eighth installment of “Tucker on Twitter,” former Fox News host Tucker Carlson dedicated a whole five minutes to mocking the “personal journey” of Rachel Levine, the US assistant secretary for health and the nation’s highest-ranking openly transgender official.
